Applies To: Transplantation

Lab: Tissue Antigen Lab (TAL)

Request Form: TAL charge slip

Patient Preparation: Predialysis

Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Deliver immediately to lab at room temperature; do not refrigerate

Causes for Rejection: Sample more than 72 hours old, incorrect tube, incorrect label, insufficient white cell count, poor viability

Availability: Samples can be delivered to the Tissue Antigen Laboratory, Room 2.810, Rebecca Sealy Hospital, Monday-Friday, 7 AM to 5:00 PM.   Samples received after noon will be processed the next business day. 

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 days

Special Instructions: Schedule 24 hours in advance. The request form must contain the following information: patient name, UH #, physician's name, route, and extension.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 1x 10 mL red-top tube from patient, 3x 10 mL yellow-top tubes from donor

Minimum Volume: 3 mL red-top tube from patient, 2x 10 mL yellow-top tubes from donor

Container: Red-topped, yellow-topped (acid citrate dextrose) tubes

Critical Values: Positive cross match
