Shots Across Texas is one of UTMB Montgomery County Health Department's greatest opportunities to partner with other organizations and make a tangible difference in the lives of Montgomery County children. The event, held the last Saturday before school begins, provides free immunizations for kids ranging from infant to age 18.

During Shots Across Texas 2009, volunteers gave a total of 2973 immunizations to 1046 children!

The event was organized by UTMB's Montgomery County Health Department and made possible through the work of 200 volunteers. Conroe ISD, Willis ISD, Montgomery ISD, Conroe Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Hospital - The Woodlands, the Montgomery County Hospital District and Lone Star Family Practice sent volunteer vaccinators and medical advisors.  Other volunteers included members of the Conroe ISD Academy for Science and Health Professions and Community Outreach group, the Sheriff's Citizens Academy Alumni Association and the Conroe Chamber of Commerce.

Conroe Regional Medical Center and Holly Pichette provided supplies for the event.  The Cut & Shoot Lion's Club, the Conroe Kiwanis Club, United Way of Montgomery County, Community Health Choice, Montgomery County Hospital District, the Assistance League of Montgomery County,  Maximus and the US Census set up booths to distribute food, water and information.

During Shots Across Texas Children's Books on Wheels provided CHIP and Medicaid screening for 200 children and families.  At the Conroe Fire Station down the street, Safe Kids Greater Houston - Montgomery County Division distributed and installed 98 booster seats to under resourced families.
