H1N1 FLU UPDATE

Montgomery County officials have received word that there are  78 confirmed and 3 probable cases of H1N1 flu virus in Montgomery County.

The individuals infected with the virus range in age from one to 52 years old, and all have recovered without incident. The majority of those who got sick were children who stayed home from school and day care facilities during their illness. The H1N1 virus has been mild and similar in severity to seasonal flu.

Parents are asked to monitor their children's health and to call their physician at the first sign of illness. All community members are urged to practice infection control measures, including washing hands thoroughly and often, coughing and sneezing into tissues or shirt sleeves and staying home when they are sick.

Individuals who have flu-like symptoms (high fever, cough, sore throat) should stay home for at least seven days, even if they feel better sooner.
