Zuliang Jie

Zuliang received his B. S. and M.S. from Xiamen University, China, where he researched the virus structural protein of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). During his graduate study he found that he is interested in host-virus interactions, including how the host immune mechanisms protect against viruses. Since 2008, when he joined Department of Microbiology and Immunology program at UTMB, he has worked on viral hepatitis in Dr. Jiaren Sun's lab. Under Dr. Sun's guidance, they found that IL-17 secreted by γδT cells plays a very important role in regulating the Th1 and CTL responses in adenovirus-induced hepatitis. But the mechanism of how IL-17 regulates Th1 and CTL responses in this model is not very clear. Zuliang's project is to understand the role and mechanism of IL-17 in regulating Th1/CTL responses in viral hepatitis.
