McLaughlin Fellowship Committee is proud to administer Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships in Infectious Disease Research
In April of 2007 the McLaughlin Fellowship Committee and the Director of the IHII announced the establishment of two pre-doctoral Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships in Infectious Disease Research. These fellowships came about as the result of a generous donation of the Vale-Asche Foundation of Houston Texas to UTMB for the establishment of infectious disease fellowships.
The award followed a visit to the University during which the Foundation learned of the infectious disease research being conducted within the Institute of Human Infections and Immunity, and became aware of the need to train more young scientists in this important area.
Following receipt of the gift, the Director of the IHII and the McLaughlin Fellowship Committee decided to supplement the generous Vale-Asche gift with sufficient McLaughlin funds to permit the establishment of two one-year graduate student fellowships.
The first two recipients of the Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships were Johanna Sierra and Alison J. Johnson. The current recipients of the fellowhips are Erika Caro Gomez, Ashley Grant and Frances Valencia.
