photoResearch in my laboratory focuses on mechanisms of channel gating and exocytosis. Experiments on single channels and voltage clamped excitable cells reveal that nonelectrolytes slow and reduce the conductance. Other studies on mast cells explore the role of the vesicular matrix in the storage of hormone and mechanical changes that accompany secretion. The relation between presynaptic properties and transmitter release is being studied in crayfish neuromuscular junctions using two electrode voltage clamp techniques.
