Brian T. Miller, Ph.D.

General Information

Dr. Miller was raised in southern Wisconsin and received a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  He completed his Ph.D. in Anatomy at the University of Texas Medical Branch and subsequently spent several years as a postdoctoral student and fellow at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he also taught Gross Anatomy to first-year medical students.  In 1986, Dr. Miller returned to UTMB where he is currently the Co-Director of the first-year Gross Anatomy and Radiology Course in the School of Medicine.  Dr. Miller also directs the Selective in Anatomy for senior medical students and teaches Gross Anatomy to students in the UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences.  In addition, he is the UTMB representative to the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas and serves as the Co-Chair of the UTMB Course Directors Committee.  Dr. Miller was also selected as one of the UTMB faculty advisors to the Vesalius Student Society.

Dr. Miller has received several teaching awards at UTMB including multiple “Best Teacher” (Jimmy Doyle Dickens Memorial) awards and The Class of 1947 Excellence in Education Award.  In 2007, he was selected as an inaugural member of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers.  This Academy has named Dr. Miller the Class of 1947 Scholar in Education.  In 2008, the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor was bestowed upon Dr. Miller in recognition of his significant contributions to the educational mission of the Medical Branch.
