Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 06/14/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=06dae2d0aaf13bfe Letter to the Editor: The primary goal of the public, tax-supported medical school should be the training and actual measurable permanent placement of fully trained primary-care physicians in underserved rural and urban areas. The secondary mission should be indigent care and the least important should be research. While quite important, research should be the mission of privately-endowed foundations and medical schools. The University of Texas Medical Branch and the other academic centers need to look into their own house or speak to the international physicians and osteopathic physicians who struggle to care for Texans in areas in which the professors have probably never set foot.
