KUHF-FM (88.7, Houston) January 30, 2010
In this week’s installment of UTMB’s Medical Discovery News, Norbert Herzog and David Niesel report that the infection rate of Mycoplasma genitalium, an emerging sexually transmitted disease in the United States, is up to four percent among young adults. Scientists at UTMB, along with other researchers, have recently shown that Mycoplasma genitalium can cause long-term infections in both men and women. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of this STD until now. Genital Mycoplasma infections are not routinely screened for in the United States. MDN airs locally at 10 a.m. Saturday on KUHF.
