Hurricane plans hold promise plus hope

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 07/03/06http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=dad2594c1ec6f4a2 Most of us evacuate ourselves. The promise is that the traffic problems have been solved by more routes and contraflows and the larger destination cities are better prepared to receive the Galveston evacuees. For those seniors and special people who need help, the news is reassuring. Bigger, better air-conditioned buses, manned with University of Texas Medical Branch health care teams, promise a more comfortable trip and assurance that special health care evacuation sites in Austin will provide proper care. Please call 211 to reserve your seat on the senior and special-needs buses. The first hurricane of the 2006 season has come and gone, and few people have called 211 to place their name on the list for help in evacuating. Don’t wait until a hurricane is in the Gulf before calling 211.
