Head of Hawaii medical school takes Texas position

KHOU-TV (CBS) Ch. 11 Houston TX (Internet / TV) 07/17/06 Officials said the interim dean of the University of Hawaii School of Medicine is taking a position with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Austin. Samuel Shomaker will take over as dean of Austin programs effective September 1. In Austin, Shomaker will be charged with advancing the school’s long-range strategic plan for economic health, according to the school’s Web site. Shomaker joined the Hawaii medical school as an associate dean in 2000. Hawaii officials said Shomaker’s administrative team was instrumental in helping the school move to a new campus after being hit by devastating floods.
