UTMB physician held in shooting

Houston Chronicle (Internet / Print) 07/27/06 A University of Texas Medical Branch physician opened fire from his sport utility vehicle with a pistol, wounding a man on a bicycle late Tuesday just outside this central Galveston County town, the sheriff's department said. Wameeth Fadhli, 33, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remained in the Galveston County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $250,000 bail. No motive was known, Sheriff's Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said in a statement Wednesday. The victim underwent surgery but officials declined to disclose his condition. Witnesses saw Fadhli pull up next to the man about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Avenue C and fire several shots from the window of a green SUV. Deputies located Fahdli's vehicle in the 1900 block of O'Riley, about a mile from the scene, and arrested him.
