Might as well face it, some of us are addicted to sun

A year later, beachfront research by researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston found behaviors and attitudes about tanning that resembled those found in people addicted to drugs and alcohol in a quarter of 145 beachgoers by one set of criteria, and in more than half using another diagnostic criteria. Basically, the hard-core tanners keep on tanning despite knowing the practice raises their risk of developing skin cancer. "Dermatologists often talk about people who seem 'addicted to the sun' _ people who know it's not good for them to be bronzed all the time, but don't seem to be able to stop tanning,'' said Dr. Richard Wagner, the senior author of the study that labeled the condition "a novel type of light substance-related disorder."
