To be eligible for participation, an applicant must be in one
of three categories based on his/her classification at the time of
participation: 1) as a medical student; 2) as a graduate student doing
biomedical research; or 3) as an intern or resident.

THE APPLICANT MUST BE LISTED AS THE FIRST AUTHOR TO BE ABLE
TO PARTICIPATE.

Be certain TITLE IS COMPLETELY CAPITALIZED.

Be sure that street address, zip code, degrees, and grant support
are not listed in the abstract.
-
DO NOT list authors' names,
institutional affiliation, or location in the BODY OF THE ABSTRACT.
-
Abstracts must be less than 2500 characters.
Any abstract not
typed within these margins will not be published in the abstract book.

Check accuracy of spelling.
-
Do not use underline for emphasis.
-
All
abstracts must be in the English language.
-
Research presented may not have
been published prior to submission.
-
Organize the body
of the abstract in this manner:
-
Background - Describe the
background and significance of the research to be presented.
-
Objective - a statement of
the objective and/or hypothesis of the research
-
Methods - a brief description
of the methods used in the research
-
Results - results must be
stated. it is not enough to state that other results will be presented.
-
Conclusions - Briefly discuss
the conclusions and future studies

abstract form, first save it to your own computer and then email the .pdf
form to Elisabeth Sanders at
easander@utmb.edu

The abstract must be emailed no later than January 23, 2009. The exceptions
are student winners of other research competitions who are automatically
accepted to the Forum.

ABSTRACTS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE SPECIFIED GUIDELINES WILL BE REJECTED
WITHOUT CONSIDERATION.
