A predominant strength of the UTMB Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship lies in the experience and composition of the faculty who will
serve as mentors within the program. Each having trained at different institutions, our faculty members offer valuable diversity of clinical

Edward V. Hannigan, M.D.
Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Radiation Therapy
Vice Chairman for Clinical Affairs
Chief, Division of Gynecologic Oncology
Frances Eastland Connally Professor in Gynecologic Oncology
Director, Fellowship Program

Dr. Hannigan completed his internal medicine residency at UTMB and his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at The National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. He completed his fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining the UTMB faculty in 1981. He has served as chairman of the Gynecologic Surgical Review committee of the Southwest Oncology Group(SWOG) since 1988.

Dr. Hannigan's research interests are related to cervical intraepithelial disease and chemoprevention.

Concepcion Diaz-Arrastia, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology
Division of Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Arrastia completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (SUNY Downstate). Dr. Arrastia remained at SUNY as an Assistant Professor until she joined the faculty at UTMB in December 1996.

Her research interest include molecular ultra-staging of early cervical carcinoma, using genomic and proteomic tools; computer-enhanced laparoscopic (tele-robotic) gynecologic oncology surgery; the natural history of HPV in aging women; and medical management of genial intraepithelial neoplasia.

Tri A. Dinh, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology
Division of Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Dinh completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UTMB, he continued of for 3 years as a Generalist Ob/Gyn until starting his fellowship in July 2000. He completed his fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital in June 2003.

He returns to UTMB with an interest in International Health delivery and participating in Gynecologic Oncology Group protocols.

Lyuba Levine, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology
Division of Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Levine completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark, NJ and UMDNJ, Newark, NJ. She completed her fellowship training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2004.

Dr. Levine completed her Master's in Medical Science at the University of Texas Medical Branch in August 2003. She is a WRHR Scholar and her research includes "Endometrial Cancer – Role of Estrogen and Progesterone Receptors in Activation of the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and the Intracellular Pathways Involved." Dr. Levine is also very involved in Gynecologic Oncology Group research.
