Personnel 

William O'Brien M.D. (Bill) Associate Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, Chief, AIDS Pathogenesis Research Laboratory.  Bill has extensive experience in basic virological reseach, AIDS clinical research and as an AIDS clinician.  He is currently assembling a state-of-the-art HIV pathogensis research laboratory integrating clinical rearch projects, basic research in virology, immunology and neuroscience.  The laboratory also has strong academic and industry collaborative ties.  Bill is also associated with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at UTMB.
 
 
 

Georges Herbein M.D., Ph.D.  Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine.  Georges is both a virologist and immunologist interested in HIV immunopathogenesis.  His recent publications deal with the role of macrophages, cytokines and viral genes in T-cell death.

Todd Pappas Ph.D.  Instructor. Todd is a neuroscientist, interested in how HIV, cytokines, lipid mediators and neurotransmitters are involved in neuropathogenesis in AIDS

Cheng Zong Deng. Research Assistant.  Expert in the culture of human PBMC and a number of cell lines.
 
Xueliang Han.  Research Assistant.  Cloning and sequencing of HIV from patients on HAART.

Erik ShankResearch Assistant .  Organotypic Hippocampal slice culture model of HIV in the brain.
