At UTMB, under the influence of Dr. Stobo, numerous professionalism initiatives arose since 2000. UTMB has a Professionalism Committee, comprised of clinical, administrative & educational leadership whose mission it is to promote a culture of professionalism. This group wrote the UTMB Professionalism Charter, aimed not only at physicians, but at all the UTMB employees. (for print version of the charter, go here).
Other professionalism initiatives have included the creation of a Diversity Council and the establishment of the UTMB Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society Chapter. All UTMB students participate in a Student Honor Pledge Day, and White Coat or Pin Ceremonies are now included for students in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Allied Health Sciences Departments of Physician Assistant Studies. Physical Therapy, and Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
