UTMB 3rd Year Pediatric Clerkship (outpatient portion)
Every third year medical student at UTMB is required to take the Pediatric
Clerkship. UTMB places approximately 230 UTMB third year medical students with
preceptors across the state each year for this course. The entire 3rd Year
Pediatric Clerkship is eight weeks. The inpatient portion is four weeks, the
nursery portion is one week, and the outpatient portion (with a volunteer
community teaching physician) is three weeks.
Preceptor Qualifications

MD or DO

Board certified in Pediatrics
(generalists only...no specialists)

Current license to
practice in Texas
-
No disparaging marks on the
Texas State Medical Board
Community Teaching Physician commitment per student
4.5 days each week for 3 weeks

Each Period listed above is 4 weeks long, but the student will only be at the
preceptor's location for three of those four weeks. The student will spend one
of those four weeks completing their nursery requirement.
