Biosketch: 

Dr. Banda received his Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zambia in Lusaka, Zambia in 1990 and his Masters of Science in Medical Science from the University of Glasgow in 1994.  He received his Diploma in Medical Education from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1995.  He currently serves in the role of Assistant Dean, School of Medicine, at the University of Zambia.  He participated in UTMB’s Office of Educational Development Fellowship Program from October 1998 to May 1999 where he served in the role of Visiting Professor in the Office of Educational Development. 

In addition to the role of Assistant Dean, his major areas of involvement also include Fellow in International Fellowships in Medical Education (IFME) of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) of the United States of America; national coordinator for a Higher Education Link to develop a curriculum for a Health Professionals Teaching Accreditation Course (HPTAC), a course that will conduct a series of modules for improving faculty members’ teaching skills; Medical Education Coordinator for the School of Medicine; course coordinator for embryology and clinical anatomy; and lecturer in human gross anatomy, histology, embryology and neuroanatomy.  Dr. Banda is also the National President for the Zambia Medical Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the Zambia Central Board of Health and a member of the Board of Directors of the Zambia Food and Poison Board.  His other interests include the future of anatomy teaching, faculty development and evaluation of teaching. 

   
Focus:   During Dr. Banda’s Fellowship at UTMB, he focused his activities on medical school governance, problem-based learning, faculty development, management of educational change and evaluation techniques.
