Participating students gain detailed information about molecular biology, cell biology, and molecular genetics. Students learn and apply sophisticated, state-of-the-art methods which can include: polymerase chain reaction, tissue culture, DNA fingerprinting, restriction enzyme digestion, DNA sequencing, Western blotting, and mitotic chromosome preparations. Students engage in debates on current ethical issues and perform an independent study project during the last two weeks of the program utilizing laboratory skills they have acquired. Eligibility: students currently in 9th and 10th grade
attending public or private school in any of the nine Galveston
County Independent School Districts. Prior Camp II participants are not eligible to apply. Students may apply for one of two half-day sessions; a session is 4 weeks.
