Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

UTMB's Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium Conference
will be held March 3-4, 2005.

Annual Undergraduate Research SymposiumThe annual Undergraduate Research Symposium is sponsored by UTMB's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and hosted by its Committee for Diversity in Graduate Education and the Office of Educational Outreach. This annual symposium provides students from around the country with the opportunity to:

  • Discuss their research experiences
  • Present their findings in a formal setting to fellow students, faculty and staff
  • Explore their interest in graduate education by touring the university and interacting with faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students.

About the ProgramThe Undergraduate Research Symposium is a national conference designed to encourage students to pursue advanced training in the biomedical sciences and provide faculty mentors and advisors with resources for facilitating students' success. Travel & Conference Site Information

The conference site is on the campus of the University of Texas Medical Branch, home of the first full-sized maximum biological containment facility/ Biosafety Level Four (BSL4) laboratory on a university campus in the United States. Located in Galveston, UTMB is a major academic health center dedicated to health science education, patient care, research, and community service. For more than a century, dedicated teams of UTMB employees and volunteers have committed themselves to service, diversity, education, community, and innovation-all with the common goal of safeguarding the health of Texas. Agenda

The 2005 event offers a strong program comprised of scientific sessions, student oral and poster presentations and exhibits. Student presentations will be judged during the symposium and those receiving the highest scores will be given awards during the final dinner on Friday, March 4, 2005. Registration

Register OnlineAll participants must register online for the Undergraduate Research Symposium. Registrations must be complete and correct. A confirmation letter will be sent to the address given on the registration form within 10 business days. All abstracts must be submitted online. Registration is now closed.

 

 

 

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Kenneth BoutteDr. Kenneth Gerard Boutte, Sr.

Dr. Kenneth Boutte received his BS degree cum laude in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana in May of 1976. He earned the Ph.D. in Immunoparasitology from the University of California, Berkeley, in December 1983. Dr. Boutte was the third African American to earn the Ph.D. from Berkeley’s Zoology Department and the first in the area of immunoparasitology.
