Summer Science Camp II for 9th and 10th grade students

Camp Information

Participating students gain detailed information about molecular biology, cell biology, and molecular genetics.
 
Students learn and apply sophisticated, state-of-the-art methods which can include: polymerase chain reaction, tissue culture, DNA fingerprinting, restriction enzyme digestion, DNA sequencing, Western blotting, and mitotic chromosome preparations.
 
Students engage in debates on current ethical issues and perform an independent study project during the last two weeks of the program utilizing laboratory skills they have acquired.

Eligibility

Students must be currently enrolled in 9th or 10th grade, attending public or private school, in any of the nine Galveston County Independent School Districts. There is no charge for program participation. Prior Camp II participants are not eligible to apply.

Camp Dates

Students may apply for one of two half-day sessions; a session is 4 weeks.
 
Session 1: June 5 - July 2, 2009 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
- OR -
Session 2: July 6 - July 31, 2009 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
