Integrating “One Health” into Health Professions Training

Description of workshop

One health is an area of research, training, and practice that addresses “wicked problems” that occur at the various intersections between humans, animals, plants, and their shared environment. Incorporating One Health activities and content into health professions training creates the opportunity for students from diverse professional backgrounds to work in teams, break down silos, and explore complex emerging health challenges such as emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, food security, migration, and climate change.

This workshop will explore the background, rationale, and competency framework for One Health training, examining the benefits and lessons learned from five years of experience running both virtual and field-based courses. Participants will split into teams to work with an assigned case to practice integrating the One Health approach into coursework. Teams will then present to the larger group for feedback and discussion.
