The Zeiss LSM 510 UV META confocal microscope and the SLM 4800S spectrofluorometer are located in a laboratory certified at biological safety level 2. This laboratory is approved for the use of all safety level 2 infectious agents and all other infectious agents, that have been rendered noninfectious, and hazardous chemicals approved for use on the UTMB campus. This laboratory contains a Baker NCB-4 biological safety cabinet; a Hamilton chemical fume hood; two Forma Steri-Cult (HEPA-filtered) CO2 incubators; an explosion-proof freezer (-20oC); a Beckman Allegra 6 centrifuge; a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer; two Shel Lab water baths; and the appropriate small equipment, glassware, and plasticware required by a biosafety level 2 laboratory.
The OIC maintains small samples of coverslip culture chambers and some reagents for fluorescence studies. These trial samples are offered to investigators without charge.
