Dr. Panchbhavi qualified as
a physician in 1986,
and ob
tained a post graduate degree, Master of Science in Orthopedics
from the Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 1989. He also
received five years of additional post-graduate training in
Orthopedics & Trauma in Great Britain and earned additional
credentials awarded by the board certifying bodies of the Royal
College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England—namely FRCSEd (Fellow,
Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh), and FRCS (Fellow, Royal
College of Surgeons, England). In addition, he completed one year of
subspecialty fellowship training in Foot
and Ankle surgery at the University of Texas Medical
Branch at Galveston, Texas, USA.
Dr. Panchbhavi has
published on the innovative technique of keyhole surgery for
procedures such as fixation of pilon fractures in distal tibia,
endoscopic gastrocnemius release, harvesting tendons in foot for
grafting and peroneal tendoscopy, which are traditionally performed
through full, open incisions. He has also
developed new techniques to measure results after bunion
surgery such as metatarsal span measurements and forefoot
circumference and digital measurements as a new standard to compare
results.
Besides being
recognized and published in peer-reviewed journals such as the
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Foot and
Ankle Surgery and Foot and Ankle International,Techniques
in Foot & Ankle Surgery, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and
INJURY magazine, Dr. Panchbhavi presents at many international
orthopaedic conferences and association meetings. He is an editorial
board member on journals such as the Techniques in Foot and Ankle
Surgery and the Foot and Ankle International.
He is also a
member of the General Medical Council, and the American Orthopaedic
Foot and Ankle Society, American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons
and fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Royal College of
Surgeons of
England.
His special interests
include surgery of the foot and ankle, diabetic foot and ankle
disorders, the Ilizarov method of bone deformity correction and bone
transport, ankle arthroscopy, Endoscopy, heel pain, fractures of the
ankle, talus and calcaneus, and trauma and general orthopaedics.
