Come to the Vesalius Book club to discuss the fascinating case of Clive Wearing, world-renowned Renaissance musicologist and former conductor for the BBC, who lost most of his memory after a bout of herpes encephalitis. He can now remember only events that happened in the past 30 seconds and is thus in a constant state of "just awakening". Unlike the other contemporary cases of severe amnesia, identified only by the patient's initials, Wearing's disability has been documented in ample public video recordings over the past 23 years. The following book chapter and videos vividly depict his daily struggles and enduring character.
