The John P. McGovern Student Award in Oslerian Medicine

The John P. McGovern Student Awards in Oslerian Medicine provide monetary support for the education of medical students whose performance and conduct exemplify those ideals of medical practice as promulgated by Sir William Osler. The fundamental principles of Oslerian medicine include:

  • Compassionate, personalized medical care that emphasizes the doctor/patient relationship
  • Incorporation of a sound scientific basis for optimal patient care
  • Professional behavior at all times

Each award will be for $10,000 per year and will continue until the expected date of graduation.

Students whose nominations have been accepted will receive an invitation to apply for the award and an application form. The applicant will need to request letters of recommendation from one of his or her POM faculty members, from another member of the SOM faculty who knows the applicant, and from a medical student well acquainted with the applicant. An optional fourth letter of recommendation may be submitted by any other person who knows the applicant very well. (Current Osler scholar faculty are excluded from writing letters of recommendation for nominees unless the Osler Scholar is the student’s sole POM facilitator.)

Previous recipients include: Jennifer Barnhill, Brian Brendel, Sandra Caldwell, Claudia Gomez, Milagros Martinez, Joshua Mourot, Tara Neubrand, Matthew Ramirez, John Ray, and Briana Sacco.
