To save/download a file
Many of the "PowerPoint" and other
slideshows are very large and will take a long time to appear on your screen. An
option is to download the file to your local computer before viewing it on your local computer.
A consistent method
to save/download a file (for example: html, pdf, pps, ppt) without viewing it:
When using Netscape 4.73 (or later) or Internet Explorer 7 (or later), RIGHT-CLICK on the LINK (underlined item).
Then, choose to save/download:
- Internet Explorer -- "Save TARGET as..."
Many Web Browsers and other "viewing" programs offer a "SAVE" option under the "FILE" item on the MENU-BAR.

To view a slide presentation
Several ways may be offered for viewing a "Slides Show" that accompanies a Grand Rounds presentation . Viewing-options appear on the Recent Grand Rounds Page beside the TITLE of the Grand Rounds. If an option is not underlined, then that option is not (yet) available - check back.
To view a slide presentation on-line from your Internet browser, click on the underlined option.
Since they are usually very large, a SEPARATE WINDOW is usually opened.
If you prefer, you may save (download) PDF, PPS, or PPT files, then view on your local computer (see "Save...")
- [PDF] - "Portable Document Format" file -- consists of one .PDF file.
- One advantage of .PDF files is that MOVIES are incorporated into the .PDF file -- unlike PowerPoint.
- Viewed with "Adobe Reader"
[download
Adobe Reader
- To learn how
to use Adobe Reader, start "Acrobat Reader" on your local computer,
then click "HELP" on Menu Bar.
- [PPS] - Microsoft "PowerPoint" Slide Show. Consists of one .PPS file, which is created from within the PowerPoint program.
- Viewed with the Microsoft "PowerPoint" program.
- If you do not have a current Microsoft "PowerPoint" program on your computer, you may view the file with Microsoft "PowerPoint Viewer 2007" --
[download
"PowerPoint Viewer"]
- [PPT] - Microsoft "PowerPoint" - original .PPT file ( PowerPoint 97 or later)
- If you do not have a current Microsoft "PowerPoint"
program on your computer, you may view the file with Microsoft "PowerPoint Viewer 2007"
--
[download
"PowerPoint Viewer"]
- [Slide Show] - This kind of "Slide Show" consists of many separate files, which makes it less visually appealing and harder to download. When the original .PPT file is not available, then "Slide Show" is provided if available.

To view a "DOC" file -- Microsoft "Word"
- [DOC] - (usually) consists of one .DOC file.
- To view a .DOC file on-line (from your Internet Browser), click on the [DOC] option. OR, if you prefer, you may save (download) a DOC, then view on your local computer (see "Save...")
- Viewed with the Microsoft "Word" program
- If you do not have a current Microsoft "Word" program on your computer, you may view the file with "Word Viewer"
[download
"Word Viewer "]
- We currently "Word version 2003" rather than the current version, on the assumption that this version is more universally available. (Feb.2010)
