Residency program awarded major grants
Posted: March 2009
Global corporations Alcon and Allergan each donated $25,000 to the UTMB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences residency training program after Hurricane Ike.
Alcon is a worldwide leader in pharmaceuticals for the eye and world's second largest manufacturer of consumer vision care products. Allergan is a global, multi-specialty health care company pursuing therapeutic advances, including the treatment of eye conditions.
Dr. Erik van Kuijk, department vice chairman for clinical services, said, "This speaks to the belief that these global pharmaceutical companies have in the vibrancy of our program and the role we play in training ophthalmologists."
