Faculty Positions

We are recruiting MD degree with a successful completion of an ophthalmology residency program and possibly a fellowship in cataract and refractive surgery. If not board certified, faculty member must be actively pursuing board certification with the intent of becoming certified within one year of hire.

Within capabilities, faculty member will engage in the full range of patient eye care with major emphasis on patients suffering from cataract and refractive errors. Eye care will include surgery, outpatient clinics, inpatient care and management as well as consults, including Texas Department of Criminal Justice patients. Faculty member will participate fully in the Department's resident, fellowship, and medical student training and teaching programs. In addition, the faculty member will support the research goals of the department and conduct approved research as desired.

Support Staff Positions


Administrator
to assist the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology in the management of the department as it relates to budget planning and administration, human resource utilization, policy administration, and coordination of activities with other departments. Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, General Business, Health Care Administration or related degree and six years of progressive administrative experience and demonstrated leadership.

Coding Specialist
with one year of medical billing or related experience, or related training from an accredited agency.  CCA, CCS, or CCSP coding certification from AHIMA; or CPCA, CPC, CPCH, CPCHA coding certification from AAPC required within one year of hire.  Successful completion of General Compliance Coder testing.

Certified Ophthalmic
Technician High school or equivalent with CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification, Current JCAHPO - Certified, and Ophthalmic Technician (COT) Certification

Post-Doctoral Fellow
position is available immediately for a highly motivated individual to focus on two projects involving the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The first is to extend our studies on the susceptibility of RPE cells to oxidative stress and the resultant mitochondrial damage and the second, in collaboration with the University of Florida, will characterize the differentiation signals required to generate RPE from bone marrow stem cells. The successful candidate will employ primary cells, cell lines, and mouse models to address these issues. This dynamic work will help identify novel therapeutic strategies for age-related macular degeneration. The successful candidate must have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biological sciences, or the equivalent. Verbal and written communication skills in English and computer literacy are essential. Research experience in cell and molecular biology, cell culture, signal transduction, DNA repair and/or protein analysis are desirable. Individuals must be a team player with good organizational skills and ability to communicate and work well with others.
