Brian Au, M.D.
Brian Au was born in Chicago and grew up in Hong Kong. He graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Environmental Sciences and the Boston University School of Medicine. Fluent in three languages and knowledgeable in five, Dr. Au spent a year in Japan teaching English as a second language to junior high school students. In his spare time he enjoys snowboarding, surfing, rollerblading, traveling, and learning foreign languages. He has special interests in corneal and vitreoretinal diseases.

Amina Husain, M.D.
Amina Husain was raised in Dayton, Ohio where she graduated as salutatorian of Centerville High School. Confident of her desire to pursue medicine as a career, she attended NEOUCOM--a 6 year BS/MD program in Rootstown, Ohio, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. During her internship at Kettering Medical Center, Dr. Husain spent one month in Cairo, Egypt working in the outpatient clinics of the American University and one month in Hangzhou, China working with a cornea specialist. Dr. Husain's current hobbies include: interior design, guitar, canoeing, and horseback riding.

Farshid Ighani-hosseinabad, M.D.
Farshid Ighani was born in Tehran, Iran and moved to the United States at the age of three. Dr. Ighani graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. degree in Biology. A graduate of the Texas Tech Medical School, he completed a Transitional Year program at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa before joining his colleagues at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He aspires to travel the world and help serve individuals in underserved areas.

Kevin Burke Miller, M.D.
Kevin Miller was raised in Healdsburg, CA. After graduating from college at University of California at Davis, he completed medical school at Tufts University. After completing an internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch, he began residency in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. In his free time he plays intramural basketball, runs on the beach, and does lap swimming.

Emelike Agomo, M.D.
Emelike Agomo originally from Nigeria, grew up in Houston, Texas. He was a nurse prior to becoming a physician and worked as an Emergency Room nurse while completing his Doctor of Medicine from Howard University. He is past president of the American Medical Student Association. Prior to beginning residency he completed an ophthalmic medical mission in Corazal, Belize.

Maghan Flemmons, M.D.
Meghan Flemmons was raised in Round Rock, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in music. She earned her medical degree at UTMB. After completing an internal medicine internship at UTMB, she worked as a flight surgeon in the Air Force during which time she served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. In her spare time, she enjoys running, singing, and spending time with family.

Jennifer Melton, M.D.
Jennifer Melton was born and raised in Thibodaux, LA. After graduating from college at Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Microbiology, she worked at a company in California installing lab instrumentation and networking software. She graduated from LSU Medical School in New Orleans and completed an Internal Medicine Internship there as well. She is looking forward to her residency in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UTMB. In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.

Ruben Ramirez, M.D.
Ruben Ramirez was born in Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin and completed medical school at Temple University School of Medicine. While at Temple, he was awarded a grant as a summer research fellow from the National Institute of Health to elucidate the role of a novel gene in osteoblast growth and differentiation. Dr. Ramirez speaks fluent Spanish, enjoys soccer, snow skiing and photography.

Gerardo “David” Camoriano Nolasco, M.D.
I was born on October 25th, 1979 to a small family in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. After graduating valedictorian from my high school, I was accepted into the Latin American Campus of the University of Mobile in Nicaragua. After two years, I transferred to Oregon State University on a full scholarship sponsored by the International Cultural Service Program. On July 2002, I graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Chemistry and Microbiology, and was accepted into the undergraduate medical program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Early on in my medical training at McGill, I became interested in Ophthalmology, and was fortunate to match at the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston.

Carlos Alberto Galvan, M.D.
Carlos was born and raised in the lower Rio Grande Valley on the Texas-Mexican border. Carlos received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Southern Methodist University. Carlos received his medical degree from Stanford University. After medical school, Carlos pursued graduate studies in theology in preparation for international medical missions. After fellowship training, Carlos plans to incorporate medical missions into his practice.

Ghassan Ghorayeb, M.D.
Ghassan Ghorayeb differentiates himself by his worldly outlook on life. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Ghassan lived many years in Paris, France, where he studied Economics at the prestigious Sorbonne University. He came to the United States in 1996, attending Boston University where he graduated summa cum laude majoring in Biological Sciences. Continuing his studies at Boston University School of Medicine, he expressed an early interest in international health and Ophthalmology. His research has led him to co-found a nonprofit student organization for the advancement of transplantation, publish over five papers, and co-author a book chapter. His commitment to Ophthalmology has included research in Glaucoma, and an investigational work on the role of non-mydriatic digital imaging. In his free time, Ghassan enjoys traveling, skiing, horseback riding and knee-boarding.

Judy Chang-Strepka, M.D.
Judy Chang, born in Taiwan and raised in Humble, Texas earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at Baylor University, graduating magna cum laude. After college, she participated in research in the Nephrology department at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston. The research resulted in a publication in the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Fluid and Electrolyte Physiology. While earning her medical degree at the UTMB-Galveston, Judy pursued her interests in mission work and joined the UTMB Family Medicine faculty on a trip to the Maria Luisa Ortiz Women’s Center in Mulukuku, Nicaragua. Judy is a member of the American Medical Student Association, American Medical Association and S.I.G.H.T. (Student Improving Global Health Together).She is currently working on ophthalmology research with Dr. Van kuijk and Dr. Nancy Wills. Judy plans to pursue her interests in medical mission work after her training in ophthalmology.
