UTMB OPHTHALMOLOGY RESIDENTS AWARDED TOP POSTS Three residents graduating from the UTMB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences residency program have captured top fellowships at distinguished medical centers around the U.S. Department Chairman Bernard Godley said, “These fellowship opportunities are the launching pad for successful careers in academia or a subspecialty practice. It speaks to the talent of our residents as well as the strength of our residency program.” Congratulations to the following:

The innovative, comprehensive residency training program at the UTMB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has drawn top candidates from around the globe. Under the leadership of Dr. Brian R. Wong, residency program director, and Dr. John Davis, associate program director, the program has been revitalized and strengthened. Wong said, “We’ve created a well-rounded program that gives our graduates outstanding capabilities in research, clinic, surgery and leadership that makes them successful. “We now attract the highest-quality applicants in terms of honors, accolades, board scores and schools,” he added. Global corporations Alcon and Allergan each donated $25,000 to the UTMB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences residency training program after Hurricane Ike. Alcon is a worldwide leader in pharmaceuticals for the eye and world's second largest manufacturer of consumer vision care products. Allergan is a global, multi-specialty health care company pursuing therapeutic advances, including the treatment of eye conditions.
