 Dr. Agomo Emelike Agomo, M.D.
Emelike Agomo originally from Nigeria, grew up in Houston, Texas. He was a nurse prior to becoming a physician and worked as an Emergency Room nurse while completing his Doctor of Medicine from Howard University. He is past president of the American Medical Student Association. Prior to beginning residency he completed an ophthalmic medical mission in Corazal, Belize.
    
 Dr. Flemmons

Maghan Flemmons, M.D.
Meghan Flemmons was raised in Round Rock, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in music. She earned her medical degree at UTMB. After completing an internal medicine internship at UTMB, she worked as a flight surgeon in the Air Force during which time she served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. In her spare time, she enjoys running, singing, and spending time with family.

    
 Dr. Melton Jennifer Melton, M.D.
Jennifer Melton was born and raised in Thibodaux, LA. After graduating from college at Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Microbiology, she worked at a company in California installing lab instrumentation and networking software. She graduated from LSU Medical School in New Orleans and completed an Internal Medicine Internship there as well. She is looking forward to her residency in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UTMB. In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.
 Dr. Ramirez Ruben Ramirez, M.D.
Ruben Ramirez was born in Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin and completed medical school at Temple University School of Medicine. While at Temple, he was awarded a grant as a summer research fellow from the National Institute of Health to elucidate the role of a novel gene in osteoblast growth and differentiation. Dr. Ramirez speaks fluent Spanish, enjoys soccer, snow skiing and photography.

 Dr. Camoraino

Gerardo “David” Camoriano Nolasco, M.D.
I was born on October 25th, 1979 to a small family in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. After graduating valedictorian from my high school, I was accepted into the Latin American Campus of the University of Mobile in Nicaragua. After two years, I transferred to Oregon State University on a full scholarship sponsored by the International Cultural Service Program. On July 2002, I graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Chemistry and Microbiology, and was accepted into the undergraduate medical program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Early on in my medical training at McGill, I became interested in Ophthalmology, and was fortunate to match at the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston.

    
 Dr. Galvan  Carlos Alberto Galvan, M.D.
Carlos was born and raised in the lower Rio Grande Valley on the Texas-Mexican border. Carlos received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Southern Methodist University. Carlos received his medical degree from Stanford University. After medical school, Carlos pursued graduate studies in theology in preparation for international medical missions. After fellowship training, Carlos plans to incorporate medical missions into his practice.
    
 Dr. Ghorayeb

Ghassan Ghorayeb, M.D.
Ghassan Ghorayeb differentiates himself by his worldly outlook on life. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Ghassan lived many years in Paris, France, where he studied Economics at the prestigious Sorbonne University. He came to the United States in 1996, attending Boston University where he graduated summa cum laude majoring in Biological Sciences. Continuing his studies at Boston University School of Medicine, he expressed an early interest in international health and Ophthalmology. His research has led him to co-found a nonprofit student organization for the advancement of transplantation, publish over five papers, and co-author a book chapter. His commitment to Ophthalmology has included research in Glaucoma, and an investigational work on the role of non-mydriatic digital imaging. In his free time, Ghassan enjoys traveling, skiing, horseback riding and knee-boarding.

    
 Dr. Chang Judy Chang-Strepka, M.D.
Judy Chang, born in Taiwan and raised in Humble, Texas earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at Baylor University, graduating magna cum laude. After college, she participated in research in the Nephrology department at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston. The research resulted in a publication in the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Fluid and Electrolyte Physiology. While earning her medical degree at the UTMB-Galveston, Judy pursued her interests in mission work and joined the UTMB Family Medicine faculty on a trip to the Maria Luisa Ortiz Women’s Center in Mulukuku, Nicaragua. Judy is a member of the American Medical Student Association, American Medical Association and S.I.G.H.T. (Student Improving Global Health Together).She is currently working on ophthalmology research with Dr. Van kuijk and Dr. Nancy Wills. Judy plans to pursue her interests in medical mission work after her training in ophthalmology.

 Dr. Gonzales John Gonzales, M.D.
As a native of Southern California, John Gonzales relishes the warmth and sunny dispositions of the city and people of Galveston.  After studying Physiological Sciences at UCLA, he attended medical school at USC.  It was during his medical school training that John became a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar at the National Eye Institute in the National Institutes of Health.  His experiences and research ranging from pediatric retina to ocular malignancies have given John an appreciation for the art of ophthalmology and desire to continue to contribute to our understanding of pathophysiological processes affecting the eye.   John’s non-ophthalmologic pursuits include running and art appreciation.
  Brent Lum, M.D
Brent Lum was born and raised in a suburb of the San Francisco Bay Area.  He graduated from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Biochemisty and Molecular and Cellular Biology.   He then obtained his medical degree from the University of California at Davis School of Medicine.  He completed his transitional internship at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton, California.  He enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors.
 Dr. Kaplowitz Kevin Kaplowitz, M.D.
Kevin Kaplowitz was born and raised in Southern California. He graduated from USC with degrees in Biology and Computer Science.  He then continued on at USC at the Keck School of Medicine, and completed his internship in Phoenix, Arizona. During his free time he enjoys playing basketball and reading. Kevin is honored to continue his training at UTMB.
 Dr. Kapoor Kapil Kapoor, M.D.

Kapil was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. At a young age, he was the NSF National Vocabulary Champion, and his early love for words lead him to win numerous writing competitions.  After graduating valedictorian of his high school, Kapil proudly became a Buckeye at The Ohio State University 7-year BS/MD program, majoring in biology, psychology, and health sciences, with a minor in philosophy.  His research in pseudotumor cerebri has been awarded multiple grants and resulted in publications. In his free time, he enjoys basketball, running, traveling, and the great outdoors.
