Chapel stained glass windows

Caring Hands.jpg (111766 bytes)The single glass panel window was given by the UTMB Hospital Auxiliary and is called CARING HANDS.  This window combines classical elements with themes suggesting the beauty and history of Galveston and the Healing embrace of John Sealy Hospital and UTMB.

Lighthouse.jpg (67571 bytes)The triptych window (the one in three sections) was donated by Congregation B’Nai Israel (in Galveston) in honor of Rabbi Jimmy Kessler.  It is called LIGHTHOUSE, depicting a stylized classical beacon with multicolored jewels reflecting the diversity of those served by John Sealy Hospital and UTMB.

Interesting facts on the making of the windows ...

William Donaldson, of Galveston's Donaldson Studios, made the panels in 14 months from initial design to completion. The hands were modeled on a photo of a person holding a bowling ball.

Each glass was chosen because it best gave the effect that the artist wished to achieve. The gray and pink glass, blue and purple mix, and white flowers glass came from Indiana. The dichroic glass (changes colors with the angle of viewing) used in the orbs came from Washington state. The red and blue mix used fro the dedication plaques is from France. The jewels are from Germany. The clear ripple as well as the glass for the foliage groundcover, beach, water, sky, hands, and black area are from China.
