Research Interests

Service and Teaching-Oriented Pathologist

I am a service and teaching-oriented pathologist with nearly 20 years experience in diagnostic gynecologic and nongynecologic cytology. The UTMB Cytopathology laboratory currently interprets approximately 1400 fine-needle aspirations per year, and many of these are pathologist performed.

I am American Board of Pathology certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with special competence boards in microbiology and cytopathology, and have a strong interest in the direct diagnosis of infectious agents and have co-authored a textbook of infectious disease pathology. I participate actively in interdepartmental conferences with the Divisions of Gynecologic Oncology, Pulmonary Medicine and Oncology, and am very active in cytology quality assurance. I am also an active, part time member of the Divison of Autopsy Pathology. My main duties include diagnostic work and both resident and medical student teaching.

Research interests include cytologic diagnosis of infectious disease and incorporation of cytologic methods into autopsy pathology
