Welcome to the UTMB Patient Health Education Office (PHEO). Patient health education at UTMB is an interdisciplinary process to promote patient health and well being through a collaborative relationship between the UTMB staff and patients and their families. The mission of the PHEO was developed in collaboration with the UTMB Interdisciplinary Patient Education Committee (2003). We seek to provide easily accessible, high quality patient educational materials, programs and resources relevant to each individual’s needs, preferences and values. Our goal is to increase patient comprehension and participation in the self-management of healthcare needs.

 Available Patient Health Education Resources

• An extensive online library of patient education materials that staff may access and print for patients. Developed by multidisciplinary UTMB Authors and published at UTMB, these materials are developed with our patient population’s unique needs in mind.
  
• Selected printed educational resources available in Spanish.
  
• Online resources to assist staff who provide aspects of patient education. These include teaching guidelines and a listing of available commercial and governmental materials.
  
• Assistance for staff wishing to develop educational materials including editorial review, reading-level adjustment, formatting, graphics location and online publication.
  
• Web search information for other patient education materials.
  
• A closed-circuit TV Newborn Channel, offering educational programming for new parents.
  
• A closed-circuit TV Patient Channel, offering patient education programs (Channel 43).
  
• Consultation for Patient Education research and project implementation.
