Adolescent & Behavioral Health Division

  • Primary health care to adolescents
  • Psychological assessment and treatment
  • School consultation
  • Community programs: school-based clinics, foster care facilities, Head Start, Juvenile Detention
  • Training of students, residents and fellows
  • Interdisciplinary research focused on influence of psychosocial development and health risks of adolescents, sexually transmitted diseases and behavioral issues associated with vaccine acceptance.

Cardiology Division

Director: Ashraf Aly, M.D.

  • Detection of fetal congenital heart disease in collaboration with Maternal Health & Fetal Medicine
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation for the Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson , Texas
  • Interventional cardiology
  • Training of students and residents on the essentials of pediatric cardiology with an emphasis on essential clinical cases

Clinical and Experimental Immunology and Infectious Diseases (CEIID)

  • Federal-, foundation- and industry-funded research in asthma and immunology
  • Training at all levels, from high school students to visiting scientists
  • Grants production and materials procurement for pediatric investigators within the department

  • Develop vaccines and improve implementation of vaccination programs in underserved populations
  • Provide learning opportunities for student of both the UTMB graduate and medical schools

Endocrinology Division

Director: Katrina Parker, M.D.

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care for children and adolescents with Type I & II diabetes, obesity, among a wide-array of other endocrine disorders
  • Service the Clear Lake Subspecialty Clinic
  • Provide outpatient care and 24/7 inpatient consultation

General Academic Pediatrics/Community-Based Pediatrics

  • Training of medical students and residents
  • House the Advocacy Center and ABC Center, which coordinate care of child victims of maltreatment
  • Provide leadership and training for area medical and law enforcement personnel
  • Staffing of five clinics: Primary Care Pavilion in Galveston, the Regional Maternal and Child Health Clinic in Texas City, and satellite clinics in Alvin, Friendswood and League City

General Inpatient Services

  • Treatment of acutely-ill children (Gold Team)
  • Administration of sedation services (moderate to deep sedation for children undergoing painful or anxiety-provoking procedures)
  • Consultation for patients undergoing surgical services

Genetics

Division Director: Lillian H. Lockhart, M.D.
Members: Reuben Matalon, M.D.

  • Treatment of genetic disease with gene therapy
  • Investigation of the causes of genetic disease through research
  • Collaboration with clinics at El Paso and Beaumont, Texas
