Infectious Disease & Immunology Division

- Comprehensive clinical evaluations of children with infectious disease
- Run a synagis clinic
- Provide legal consultations
- Conduct research in asthma, airway inflammation, burn inflammation, otitis media, rotavirus, and HIV
- Offering of active fellowships in Immunology and Infectious Disease
- Participation in medical student and resident rotations
Diagnose and manage serious allergic disorders such as asthma, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, as well as genetic defects of the immune system
- Research on neutrophil and eosinophil function, molecular basis and role of cellular adherence in disease, mucosal immunity, molecular basis of immunodeficiency disorders, airway inflammation and cytokines including pathogenesis of virus-induced asthma, airway inflammation secondary to burn and smoke inhalation
- Medical student and resident training, with annual seminars for pediatric residents
- Combined Pediatric and Internal Medicine Fellowship training program
Neonatology

- Admission of 6,000 patients to the newborn nursery and 600 patients to the NICU every year
- Active participation in education, including third-year medical student and resident rotations in the newborn nursery and the neonatal ICU and active fellowship program
- Research focused on sudden infant death syndrome, perinatal epidemiology, neonatal lung injury, neonatal infections, and intrauterine asphyxia
Nephrology Division

- Research related to defining the pathogenesis, clinical-pathological correlations of and therapeutic strategies for treating various forms of glomerulonephritis, as well as different aspects of end-stage renal disease in children
- Staff clinics at Children’s Hospital and in El Paso, Beaumont, and Clear Lake
- Active participation in resident and student education
Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Division
Director: Carrol King, M.D.
Members: J. Chad Davis, M.D., Francis Nesti, M.D.
- Patient care of severely ill children.
- Resident education focused on early recognition, stabilization, and ongoing management of the critically ill child, the understanding of complex cases, interaction with other divisions, and the psychosocial sequelae and ethical concerns in critical illness.
Southeast Texas Poison Center Division/Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology
Director: Wayne R. Snodgrass, M.D., Ph.D.
- The Poison Center provides 24-hour telephone services to information-seekers, and exposure inquiries from doctors, emergency rooms, clinics, health departments, government agencies, industry and the public.
- Rotations for trainees including, pediatric residents, pediatric emergency medicine fellows (University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston), emergency medicine residents, pharmacy residents (University of Houston College of Pharmacy).
