Dr. Schmalstieg serves as director of the Pediatric Immunology Diagnostic Laboratory. He is a Professor of Pediatrics. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas
A & M University, where he also his Ph.D. He completed a fellowship at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and another at Ohio State University in Columbus. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he also completed his residency, as well as two fellowships in pediatric immunology and allergy. Dr. Schmalstieg’s research interests include the consequences of mutation in the cytoplasmic portion of the common gamma chain of the IL-2 receptor.
