Dr. Pyles in a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Microbiology & Immunology and Director of the Sealy Center for Vaccine Development PCR Core Facility. He received his B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Hanover College, Indiana. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry & Microbiology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Pyles’ research interests focus on the interaction of herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and 2) with the nervous system of the human host, neuronal and host genetic factors that contribute to HSV pathology, and recombinant viruses that carry alterations in key viral proteins to study the contribution of viral factors to pathogenesis including reporter viruses, expressing fluorescent proteins, with intact genetic compliments to better understand lytic and latent phases of the viral infection. |
