Fellowships
Clinical Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology
The Section has an ACGME accredited training program (Program number 020-48-11-026) in the subspecialty of allergy and immunology dedicated towards training of individuals for academic practice. This is a joint program of the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
This is a three-year program consisting of two years emphasizing clinical activities and a third year devoted solely to research activities.
Andrew Grant, MD, Department of Internal Medicine is the director of the program; Randall Goldblum, MD, is the Pediatric Co-Director.
The program accepts board-eligible internists and pediatricians for subspecialty training.
Each fellow is cross-trained in internal medicine or pediatrics in the second clinical year. Each year 1 or 2 candidates are accepted in the program.

Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases
This three-year ACGME accredited program is designed to provide clinical training in pediatric infectious diseases, as well as development of skills required for basic and clinical research. In addition to providing routine pediatric infectious disease consultations, the division coordinates special clinical programs: Maternal-Child HIV, Pediatric Travel Medicine, RSV Immunoprophylaxis, and Neonatal Infections.
Research activities include NIH funded research in otitis media, RSV immunopathology, herpes virus immunopathology, and vaccine development. Also available are clinical research on pharmaceutical products, and collaborations with immunology/allergy, clinical microbiology, and the adult infectious disease groups.
UTMB also houses a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Tropical Diseases and the Center for Biodefense and Emerging Infections, which contains BSL4 facilities. Candidates interested in clinical research career can enroll in advanced degree courses (M.S. and Ph.D.) in combination with the fellowship program.

Fellowship in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine
The three-year ACGME accredited fellowship program in neonatal/perinatal medicine provides clinical training in neonatology as well as development of skills required for basic and clinical research. The program accepts board eligible pediatricians who have completed a pediatric residency in an ACGME approved program.
