Nephrotic Syndrome

Nephrotic-Range Proteinuria

In children, nephrotic-range proteinuria is defined as the excretion of more than 40 mg/m2 of protein per hour, or approximately 1 g/day in a typical 10 year-old with a BSA of 1m2 (40 mg/hr X 24 hours/1m2 = 960 mg/day).

The other components of nephrotic syndrome include hypoalbuminemia, generalized edema (anasarca) and hypercholesterolemia.
