MODULE 1: A Pediatric Practice
Due by Friday of Week 2


Objectives
To assess the potential lifestyle of a pediatrician.
To examine a pediatrician's response to a significant pediatric health/wellness problem or issue.

Activities

  1. Have conversations with your preceptor.

  2. Make an effort to be involved in multiple aspects of the preceptor’s practice, civic and/or leisure activities.  This may include, but is not limited to, hospital rounds, office management, civic activities, medical staff meetings, weekend/night call, and  social/leisure activities, if invited

  3. Identify a pediatric health/wellness issue affecting many patients in this practice and community.    

  4. Identify this pediatrician's response to the issue with individual patients/families or in the community.

1.  We suggest you answer these questions in Word , then cut and paste into an e-mail.

Due by Friday of Week 2.

  1. Describe this pediatrician's practice.   You should address, but are not limited to, these questions:

    • Describe the types of patients seen in this practice (e.g. socioeconomic descriptors; education of parents?  anything unique about this population?) What clinical activities does this pediatrician do (e.g. newborns in the hospital? much behavioral pediatrics?   children with special needs?)

    • What kind of night/weekend call is expected? 

    • What are the administrative responsibilities at the clinic and/or hospital or medical organizations.

    • What examples can you give of how this pediatrician balances professional and personal lives?

  2. What does this pediatrician see as the greatest challenges to the profession of general pediatrics?  and the greatest rewards?

  3. Describe a health/wellness issue affecting many patients in this practice and community.   Report on conversations you have with your preceptor about the issue and observations you make of your preceptor’s approach to issue?  

  4. What about this pediatrician inspires you?
