Biography:
Dr.
Rudkin is a social epidemiologist and demographer with a primary
research interest in the influence of social factors on health
outcomes. She has investigated gender differences in the experience of old age, changing patterns of
intergenerational relationships, and the health benefits of social
support systems for elderly persons in both developing and developed
country contexts. She also conducts applied research and was a
co-investigator for a community-based intervention focused on reducing
lead poisoning and asthma complications among young children in a
low-income Hispanic neighborhood.
Dr.
Rudkin has taught multiple courses in the area of social and population
health sciences in the PMCH and Public Health curricula. She is the
course director for Prevention and Public Health, a core required
course in the PMCH and Clinical Science curricula. She also directs the
Community Health Practice sequence in the Public Health Program.
Those courses provide students an introduction to public health practice
and culminate in a service learning opportunity at a community based
site.
