Spring 2001 examining the association between nativity status and
quality of patient-physician interactions, specifically for Hispanics
and Asians. She is also in the process of applying for two NIH grants,
one focused on health disparities in diabetes and one focused on
translational research in diabetes. She will be teaching two courses,

Punita Sunder received her Ph.D. from the
Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health in 2006 and
double B.A. degrees in Biology and Anthropology from Rice University
(Houston, Texas) in 2002. Her research interests focus on high risk
behaviors among adolescents and young adults, particularly on predictors
of trajectories of risk profiles among adolescent subgroups. While at
UTMB, she studied contextual and individual-level predictors of
substance use among low income women, and adolescent girls’
