Goals

 

Our goals guide us in our efforts to accomplish our stated mission.  We have developed goals for the Program and for each of its major functions: instruction, research, and service.  The agreed-upon goals represent both ongoing Program goals common to any quality MPH Program and goals that are specific to the short- and long-term development of the UTMB MPH Program.   

 

 

Instructional Goals and Objectives

Provide a rigorous, comprehensive, integrated public health curricular plan with high quality instruction.

bullet

Prepare students to perform the three core functions of public health—assessment, policy development, and assurance—in their chosen career settings.

bullet

Provide students with practical experience in applied public health settings.

bullet

Train students who will engage in lifelong learning in their chosen career settings.

 

 

Research Goals

 

bullet

Conduct research with applied implications for public health practice and policy making.

bullet

Conduct community-based participatory research (CBPR).

bullet

Provide students with opportunities to be involved in faculty research projects.

 

 

Service Goals

 

bullet

Provide students with multiple and varied opportunities to perform community service with public health relevance.

bullet

Encourage faculty members to employ their expertise in the service of public health professional and community organizations.

 

 

Workforce Development Goals

 

bullet

Identify the public health related workforce development needs of area health care and public health workers.

bullet

Participate in planning and delivering continuing education programs on public health topics.

 

 

Program Goals

Expand the student base for the Program.

bullet

Increase funding for MPH program activities.

bullet

Expand the faculty base for the Program.

bullet

Enhance demographic diversity of the Program.

 

 

VALUES STATEMENT

 

the core values of the UTMB inform the Program values.  These are:

The institution’s core values were reaffirmed and expanded upon by PMCH faculty members during a recent strategic planning process.  The consensus value statement included:
