Graduate Education – Space Life Sciences
Research Facilities

A number of resources now exist at UTMB to support intensive basic science, operational and translational research addressing space-related human subject research. The Clinical Science curriculum utilizes the UTMB GCRC and also sponsors the NASA clinical research conducted at UTMB.  An extended NASA bed rest study at UTMB in the GCRC is ongoing, and a human centrifuge facility has been constructed on the UTMB campus. These research resources and other NASA projects over the next several years represent key opportunities for predoctoral dissertation research. Other potential research resources are being developed at the Johnson Space Center, UTMB, the Mars Society’s various simulation habitats, and other interested agencies. UTMB-NASA research collaborative efforts, together with joint efforts to produce PhD graduates, should foster future, additional research collaborations between NASA scientists and UTMB investigators.
