Academic Computing provides information technology support and programming for UTMB faculty and students. Important technologies supported include the Blackboard Learning Management System and the Tegrity Lecture Capture System. Our expertise ranges from Unix administration to web-database integration.
Blackboard Learning Management System
Blackboard Learn 9.1 allows a web-based interface for UTMB’s distance, hybrid, and face-to-face courses, providing collaboration, engagement, and course management. Features include discussions, content, assignments, grade book, and exams/quizzes. Blackboard supports many extensions that integrate Blackboard with additional applications (see Blackboard Building Blocks below).
Tegrity Lecture Capture
Tegrity Campus 2.0 allows UTMB instructors to record lectures and talks from the podium or from any convenient site. Equipment required is a personal computer and a microphone; a web camera is optional to record the instructor in a separate window. Blackboard Building Blocks
Blackboard functionality can be extended through the use of building blocks. Blackboard Mobile Learn extends the Blackboard platform to mobile devices. You can install an app on your iOS or Android device to access Blackboard from wherever you are. See your app store to download the Blackboard Mobile Learn app ($1.99/yr or $5.99/unlimited).
ConnectYard extends Blackboard by sending announcements and discussion posts to email, FaceBook, Twitter, and/or text messages. The Respondus building block allows publishing exams from a simple to use exam management software. SoftChalk lets Blackboard instructors and designers create engaging Blackboard content easily.
