Professionalism
Professionalism
is at the core of UTMB’s institutional mission of
education, patient care and research, and is critical to
our success as an academic medical center. UTMB promotes
a professional culture by educating employees on
appropriate behaviors and expectations, recognizing
excellence among employees and providing an ongoing
dialogue on issues affecting professionalism.
Academy of
Oslerian Medicine
In
2001, Houston physician-philanthropist John P. McGovern
donated $5 million to provide endowments for the William
Osler Scholars: practicing physicians on the School of
Medicine faculty selected based on their history of
giving highly competent, humane, compassionate care and
serving as outstanding teachers and role models for
these qualities. They comprise the John P. McGovern,
M.D., Academy of Oslerian Medicine.
Training for
Life
A
healthier workforce is more productive, feels better,
misses fewer work days due to illness, and has a better
outlook on life. All of this translates to a more
positive workplace. UTMB's Commit to Fit initiative
helps provide resources, including information,
innovative programs and health promotion opportunities,
to the UTMB community.
Faculty or Staff Organization Registration
One of the functions managed by the Office of the
President is the registration of faculty and staff
organizations at UTMB. The policies for such
organizations are outlined at UTMB and also a part of
the Rules and Regulations of the UT System Board of
Regents. A group of UTMB employees may form a registered
organization by 1) reviewing and abiding by UTMB’s
guidelines for organizations; 2) submitting a memorandum
outlining the rationale for establishing the new
organization, and 3) submitting a completed organization
registration application. A group’s status expires on
Aug. 31 and must be renewed annually. A separate but
similar process exists for Student Organizations.

Diversity
UTMB is committed to employing and educating a
workforce that mirrors the
diverse
populations we serve. We are also committed to creating
an environment where everyone--regardless of gender,
age, ethnicity, physical capability, religious
affiliation, sexual orientation or cultural
background--can be a productive member of the community
and feel rewarded and respected for the part they play
in the success of the institution.
