Carbohydrate Analysis

We are currently able to detect six monosaccharides – fucose, galactose, glucose, galactosamine, glucosamine, and mannose.  The types of samples we are able to analyze include glycoproteins and free sugars in solution.  We typically perform a four hour 20% TFA hydrolysis for glycoprotein analysis.

The DX-500 is a modular ion chromatography system that can be controlled from the front panel of each module, or can be completely automated with the Cromeleon 6 software.  The system is equipped with a GP40 gradient pump, and an EG40 eluent generator.  The eluent generator eliminates variables and chances of contamination as it utilizes electrolysis for eluent generation – not manual preparation.  The system also uses pulsed amperometric detection – minimizing fouling of the gold electrode.  Separation is performed with the CarboPac PA10 analytical column that is specific for monosaccharide analysis, with an AminoTrap guard column.
